The “Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance” festival will be held later this month at the Youth Theater in Hanoi and at the Municipal Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City for its sixth consecutive year starting from the 21st of September to the 25th in Hanoi and from the 25th until the 27th in Ho Chi Minh.

Being the first international festival of contemporary dance in Vietnam and has been running for over 5 years now, the dance festival is setting the bars higher than ever before. The event this year will be highlighted with a performance between German choreographer Riki von Falken and Vietnamese artist Nguyen Trinh Tri and will depict the rapidly fading traditions and old culture of Hanoi.

Dance enthusiasts and audiences from both cities will expect a variety of styles from this year’s edition. Dances from Germany, France, Israel, Japan, Austria, and of course Vietnam will be featured in the said event, and will explore the innermost depths of human beings, staged with breathtaking choreography and impressive light and media installations.

The Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance is an initiative of the European Union Network of Cultural Institutes (EUNIC) and different embassies in Hanoi, in cooperation with the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet (VNOB, 2011-2015), the Youth Theatre Vietnam (2016), Ho Chi Minh Ballet Syhmphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO), and HCMC People’s Committee (2016). It is an artistic and cultural event aimed to promote and enhance the value of contemporary dance in Vietnam, creating a bridge for artists to exchange and share experiences, as well as an opportunity to bring Vietnam’s audience closer to the diverse expressions of contemporary dance.
