Over the next two years, Quang Ninh Province will open two new developments including the Quang Ninh International Airport in 2017 and the Ha Long-Hai Phong Highway in 2018.
According to Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Ninh People’s Committee, the Quang Ninh International Airport will soon be opened later this year despite the delay for nearly over a year due to the extended feasibility studies were done for the project. The chairman has announced that the team has already begun completing the infrastructure connecting the city to the airport.
In addition to the province’s first and only international airport, the province has received clearance approval and will start working on the Ha Long-Hai Phong Highway by the beginning of 2018. A project that would change the game of Halong Bay’s tourism and trade sectors.
“These recent developments in Halong Bay and in the whole Quang Ninh Province is going to help boost the tourism industry further to a higher potential,” Mr. Edgar Cayanan says, General Manager for Paradise Group. “We’ve been getting a lot of negative feedback from tourists traveling from Hanoi to Halong Bay by land due to the hours spent in the cars. Once the airport is done, we could only wish that it’ll cut the travel time between the two cities into a half,” he explains further.
The international airport has a total investment of about VND7.5 trillion (US$331.7 million) for the first phase of construction and will be built on Van Don, an island located 50km from Halong Bay.
